From an overal perspective, it can be seen that the country faced a decline in population, which started increasing again by the end of the period given. Regarding unemployment, in spite of some rise in 1990s, there was mostly a downward trend.
In 1988, 6000 people resided in Irland; hovewer, it was followed by a dramatic and continuing decline, which resulted in fewer than 30000 citizens living there in 2002. During the next several years, the country experienced population growth. In 2008, Irland became a home for 5000 individuals.
With regards to employment, it started with an incredibly high level and accounted for approximatelly 18%. Nevertheless, the proportion of unemployed people reduced almost to 12% in 1990, but it increased, exceeding 14% in 1992. Then, Irland saw a steady drop, lasting several decades. In the period between 2000 and 2008, the figures varied between 4% and 6%.
