Data presented by the table above look at the fluctuations of all New Zealand’s age groups, including the rate of change in the period of 2011 to 2012.
Overall, the majority of the groups in the table saw growth in numbers, this includes 40-64; 65 +; and all ages. With the highest rise can be seen in the oldest age group, surging 4% within one year. The younger groups, on the other hand, both witnessed a small decrease in proportions, with people from under 15, and 15 to 39, both decrease by 0.2%. Regarding the groups’ sizes, it can clearly be seen that people from 15 to 64 are the main age groups as they possess almost 2 million people in total in 2012. In comparison to kids who are under 15 and old people above 65 with just almost 1.4 million.
To summarize, the table indicates a strong increase towards the older generation, and a small decrease with the younger generation. However, the overall population remains the highest with people from 15 to 64.
