The picture consists of two pictures, while the table compares the average amount of time the two genders spent on leisure activities in the UK in 2008, the bar graph depicts time spent on household chores.
Overall, both men and women spent more leisure time on media, whereas sports and reading accounted for much less. It is apparent that women took care of household activities more often than men, as their time spent on cooking, cleaning, shopping and doing laundry, dominated over that of the opposite sex. On the contrary, men took charge of most repairs and maintenance.
Looking at the table more closely, one can see that modern British citizens in 2008 would turn to means of entertainment during their free time, approaching 137 minutes per day for men, a number that was 19 minutes higher than women’s. Sadly, they only made around 10 – 20 minutes on a daily basis for reading and sports, with little gaps between males and females’ habits. On the other hand, the median time a woman would spend on preparing meals and washing would take up nearly 80 minutes daily, which was fairly equal to the total amount of time spent on shopping and doing laundry. While men merely made 10 – 30 minutes every day for those tasks, they would spend 20 minutes on repairing, a number that doubled that of women.
