Overall, the number of visitors coming to the island witnessed an upward trend throughout the period, whether they chose to stay on cruise ships or island. In 2010, there were totally 1 million people visting the Caribbean island. Specially, 750 thousand visitors stayed on the island, which is three times as many as the figure for visitors staying on cruise ships.
After seven years, the total number of visitors increased increadibly from 1 million in 2010 to 3.5 million in 2017. During this period, visitors accomodating on the island grew up to 1.5 million in 2015, before a slight drop by 250 thousand was recorded in 2016. However, its figure rose back to 1.5 million at the end of the period. As for those choosing to stay on cruise ships, their figure recorded a modest increase to 0.5 million in 2011, before falling back to 250 thousand visitors in 2012. In constrast, during the last five years, from 2012 to 2017, the number of visitors staying on sea surged dramatically, surpassed the figure for on-island visitors in 2015 and finally peaked at 2 million.
