Band 5+: Many museums and historical sites are mostly visited by tourists not local people. Why this happens? What can be done to solve this problem?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is observed that people are more likely to visit museums AND historical sites of another town more than of their own one. In this essay, we will explore the causes for this phenomena and discuss what we could do to encourage people to go to their local museums.

The first reason is usually because of motivation. For tourist, the reason they go to a museum is THAT they already have a plan to go. HOWEVER local people usually think that THE LOCAL museums are pretty close to where they live so they can go anytime they want. That thought is going to create a deferment for local people, make them feel lazy to go. So i think the best solution to this ATTITUDE is to create more interesting events, especially limited events. This encourages people in town to take part in/participate and boosts demand among them.

Second of all ,the issue is that most of the museums have UNATTRACTIVE display. They just SHOW a specimen and below it is a board with a bunch of words. I know that it IS necessary for visitorS to be informed about THE exhibits, but they can display THEM IN a better way like adding INFOGRAPHICS bellow all THE specimens. From the fact that PEOPLE ARE lazy AT reading, HAVING A INFORMATION READERS OR IN-HOUSE tour guides is also a good way to solve the problem. There are already some museums WHICH haVE hired tour guide services and installed information readers but these still haven’t caught on. In the future, there might be more establishments follow suit.

Transportation is also a problem, some people may live pretty far away from public museums. Not everyone has a car and also may not want use taxi services because sometimes they are a little expensive. That make them feel unmotivated to go far away, especially FOR people who aren’t into UNANIMATED things. So IT IS SUGESTED THAT we build more public transport and stations, especially those WHICH are directly to museums with a resonable FEE or even free for CITY RESIDENTS.

In conclusion, museums are usually visited by visitors but not local people because that most of them find them boring or unappealing and not convenient enough to attract visitors, especially locals. By upgrading museums’ infrastructures and transportation, I think it will increase the number of local visitors better than you think.
