Overall, it can be observed that the population in New York City surged in the past two centuries.In 1800, Manhattan was home to the vast majority of individuals.From the point onward, the dominance of the outer boroughs’ population over Manhattan’s has become notably more dominant.
In 1800,60,515 people lived in the Manhattan, representing the 76% of the total, while the other districts only accounted for 24%(18,701). Although Manhattan was still the city with the narrow majority of people, 1900 witnessed the dramatic growth in the proportion of the population within the four areas,which more than doubled to 1,587,109(46%). In contract, there was a moderate decline in Manhattan with 1,850,093 people(54%).
There occurred a pronounced shift in the last century.The combined total of New York city experienced a significant increase to the final figure of 8,009,185.Of that number,only 19 percent of residents lived in Manhattan,far below the corresponding figure for the remaining districts.while the other districts became more dominant and attracted 6,471,089 people which was equivalent to 81% of the total.
