Making purchases in supermarkets is opening the gateway to opt for any types of products, from staying in one country and buying international ones at present. This can be advantageous, making people aware of the latest and widespread goods. However, I think it causes some problems for some local businesses.
The main contributory factor of supermarkets is creating more options. Consumers make the most of this opportunity to choose the best and reasonable products. So if they tend to buy different kinds of varieties, the possibility of consuming most beneficial ones can have a dominant role. Moreover, after making a habit of window shopping, consumers often pay attention to healthier products such as vegetables and zero-sugar crisps or drinks which are becomig popular all over the world. Making an attempt to learn from other nations how to eat healthy food with the help of these supermarkets, most young generations can also grow healthily.
However, there are some side-effects of increasing these organizations on local businesses. Firstly, as a result of a wide range of modern supermarkets, small stores in the streets face some challenges to sell their products. In fact, they appear to lose their regular clients, shortening their incomes as a result. Another additional issue, which might impact to the social norms and traditions of a particular country, is widespread brand products. Take KFC and Coca-Cola as an example. In most countries, these products are of utmost importance, being the daily purchase of every consumer. In this case, conventional and sought-after national food and drinks may fall down to the second level even becoming outdated in the long term. People often tend to make purchases based on widespread choices among society without looking up their personal interests and benefits.
In conclusion, prevalence of supermarkets has an influential part in many nations, with offering worldwide options which improve people’s awareness in terms of consumerism. But I side with the view that it impacts the country’s busines sectors particularly, local stores in a financial way.
