The chart illustrates how many kilometers passengers travelled on fives kinds of transport in the UK from 1990 to 2000.
Overall, the number of kilometers passengers travelled by air, bus and rail and total vehicles witnessed a minimal upward trend, the opposite was true for bike and motorbike. Also, bus and rail remained the most common vehicles during the period.
Regarding the transports with a large number of kilometers covered, in 1990, around 47 billion passenger kilometers were accounted for by bus, compared to a bit lower than those by bus (at about 46 billions) by rail. In the next decade, both numbers increased gradually to about 48 billion kilometers.
As for the remaining vehicles, the distance travelled by bike, motorbike and air was around 5, 6, 4 billion kilometers, respectively in 1990. In 2000, while the two formers decreased slightly to about 4 billion kilometers, the opposite trend can be seen in the figure for air, which increased to approximately 6 billions.
Another important feature is that the total number of passenger kilometers travelled by all vehicles witnessed an upward trend from approximately 110 to 115 billion over the period between and 2006.
