In the modern world, the overwhelming majority tends to turn their focus to science, technology and business, rather than art, which is an inevitable part of human culture. The main reason for this is that the path of art is not associated with wealth in the mindset of modern society, as well as this industry lacks government’s support.
Moving to the root of the problem, consumerism as a global trend is getting rapidly spread throughout society in the last forty years. This trend is perpetuating the lifestyle of having a job chiefly as a way to earn money as a means of reaching socially-accepted possessions. Therefore, art being a less profitable sphere in terms of career path is rarely chosen.
A viable solution for this problem on the fundamental level is altering society’s attitude towards art appreciation. Particularly, the implementation of perpetuation of the value of art is ingrained in the cultivation of art galleries, theatres and cinemas. Moreover, the fundamental institute of socialisation, school is an essential channel of influence. Therefore, schools should endorse student’s passion for art. That is why, not only art as a subject at a public school is irresistible, but also additional classes on music, theatre and other forms of art should be available for all the students on a financially-free basis.
In conclusion, the tendency caused by the mindset of consumerism, which is gaining its popularity in the modern world and the solution can be partly alleviated by cultivating a mindset of art appreciation through the providence of available art education among the population.
