The line graph illustrates how many people engaged in top-level football matches in three European countries, namely Italy, England, and Germany between 1980 to 2004.
Overall, individuals in Italy watched popular football matches had a downward trend while significant increases were recorded in two remaining countries. For most of period, Italy’s viewers were the highest, but England surpassed them in the ending of survey.
Regarding the spectator in Italy, at the beginning of the period, there was a remarkable increase in total crowd participating in top-level football matches, from 35,000 in 1980 to about 37,000 in 1986. However, this number then decreased considerably, hitting a lowest point at 25,000 after 18 years.
As for the remaining countries with the rise in the number of spectators watching famous matches, England and Germany started at the same of the number of people in 1980, at around 25,000. Football matches in England then were no longer watched as much as before, this number showed a plunge to 22,000 in 1986. By contrast, in the next years, the number of people taking part in the matches went up significantly and overtook Italy in 1998, at over 26,000. The figure for Germany witnessed a similar change but to a greater extent. These two countries together reached a peak at 33,000 and 34,000 people respectively in 2004.
