France also represented the majority of students going to Australia in 2007, while Germany took the lead in 2009.

As for exchange students from European countries, the figure for France barely changed, with 61 and 60 students going to Australia in 2007 and 2009, respectively. Sweden, The United Kingdom, and The Netherlands, each had about 33 students going to Australia in 2007. Meanwhile in 2009, the figure for Sweden rose to 42 students, the figure for The United Kingdom decreased to 25, and the number of students from The Netherlands remained the same. Germany, in turn, accounted for only 27 students in 2007, whereas this number doubled in 2009, at 63 students. Notably, the number of students from Germany was two times as low as the number of students from France in 2007, while German students outnumbered French students in 2007, comprising 63 and 60, respectively. The total number of European students going on an exchange to Australia increased from 186 in 2007 to 226 in 2009.

As regards exchange students from Australia, France accounted for the majority of hosted students in 2007 and 2009, with 37 and 58, respectively. Sweden, The United Kingdom, and The Netherlands had around 32 incoming students each in 2007, whereas their figures for 2009 decreased significantly. Sweden had 27 and The United Kingdom hosted 23 students in 2009, meanwhile the figure for The Netherlands was two times as low as it in 2007, with 18 students in 2009. Germany, in turn, accounted for only 18 students in 2007 and its number rose to 26 in 2009. The total number of students was the same in 2007 and 2009, at 152 students going on an exchange to Europe.
