The table compares how much waste were produced ( in millions) in six different countries in the years 1980, 1990, 2000.
Overall, it is clear that the U.S produced more waste than the other countries combined in each of the years.
Between 1980 and 2000 , the waste production in the US rose from 131 to 192 million tonnes, and rising trend was also seen in Japan, Korea, Poland and Portugal. Japan’s waste output raised from 28 million tonnes to 53 million tonnes, while Poland and Portugal witnessed a total waste increase from 4 to 6.5 and from 2 to 3 million tonnes respectively.
The trends for Ireland and Korea were noticeably different from those described above. In Ireland, the production of the waste increased eightfold, from 0.6 in 1980 to 5 million tonnes in 2000. Korea , by contrast, reduced its waste production by 12 million between 1980 and 2000.
