The bar graph illustrates numerous trips, which are made by pupils aged between 5 and 12 to travel to and from school in one country in the years 1990 and 2010. Overall, it can be clearly seen that except for the car passenger, the total number of trips in all modes decreased.
To begin with, in 1990, walking was the most popular transport method for children, at just over 12 million. Similarly, bus was also preferred almost half as much as walking by children in this period. Also, cycling, and walking and bus stood at approximately 6 million. Nevertheless, car passenger was the least popular transport mode, which was done by children at just above 4 million in the year 1990.
Regarding the year 2010, car passenger increased significantly, which was the most widespread transport option for children, at roughly 11 million. Interestingly, the other four trips dropped dramatically in the final period. In particular, walking was a little higher than half of the total car passengers. Likewise, bus and walking, and bus options decreased to 5 million and 3 million, respectively. Finally, cycling was the least common transport option in 2010.
