The first pie chart illustrates how Australians’ household energy is consumed, while the second one depicts the percentages of greenhouse gas emissions from Australian households.
Overall, it is noticeable that a significant proportion of energy use goes to water heating and heating, while water heating and other appliances contribute to the largest greenhouse gas emissions, and a small proportion comes from lighting and cooling.
Heating is the largest consumer of energy, with around 42%, followed by water heating with nearly a third of overall energy use. Other appliances use nearly 15% of household energy. However, refrigeration, lighting, and cooling all together use just under 30% of Australian household energy.
In contrast, other appliances are considered second in greenhouse gas emissions after water heating, with 28% and 32%, respectively. Refrigeration contributes nearly 14%, while heating emits gases at around 15%. Moreover, a small minority comes from lighting and cooling, with just over a tenth.
