Well, it depends on what period of the past we're talking about. If we're talking about 20 years ago, I'd say no, famous people were the same - singers, sportsmen, politicians. However, if we're talking about a more distant past, like the 17th century, I'd say yes, because they had their own kind of famous people, like knights and royalty. Their fame was tied to their families and social status. I don't think being a singer was a very popular profession back then.
