One book that was later made into a film is Devdas, originally written by Sharath Chandra Chattopadhyay. It is a classic romantic novel that explores themes of love, pride, and social barriers. The story revolves around Devdas and Parvati, who are childhood friends deeply in love with each other. However, due to family pressure and social differences, they are not allowed to marry. Devdas, unable to cope with the separation, turns to alcohol and gradually destroys his own life. The novel beautifully portrays emotional pain and the consequences of ego and social expectations. The book was adapted into several films, but one of the most famous is the 2002 Hindi film, Devdas, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The movie was visually stunning with grand sets, traditional costumes, and powerful performances. While the film added dramatic elements and elaborate songs, it stayed true to the emotional depth of the original story. Personally, I found the book more touching because it expressed the depth of inner emotions in a subtle and realistic way. However, the film made the story more accessible and memorable through its visuals and music. Overall, I admire this story because it highlights how pride and social pressure can ruin genuine love, making it both tragic and unforgettable.
