Many foreigners have been coming to Bukhara from all over the world, but for me, one girl who from the United States has been stood out more than the rest, her name was Jane. I invited her to my house a few times over the summer. Honestly, at first we both wanted to practice our language skills, but I believed that something more grew out of this relationship and we became close friends. We both played basketball in badminton and we talked about many interesting topics and we skipped past the common, the cliche conversation like where are you from, what’s your hometown like to the meaningful conversation, like our fears, our passions and our life dreams. I never thought that I’d have so much in common with someone from another country and because we both wanted to, for example, we both wanted to become fashion designer and we loved watching a foreign fashion show from Paris. Despite our similarities, we had fun together and we began joking around, acting silly together. I feel like I’ve known her all my life and I was surprised how open and understanding she was and how open I became with myself. In the short time we had together and we became closer than any of my other friends. I was very sad when she had to return home, but I believe that we will both remember our experience and I also believe that we both learned something new about the world. Despite all of our differences, we are still somewhat the same.
