Sara shared the varieties of spices and flavors used in Indian cuisine like biryani, dosa and butter chicken and I shared my experiences with traditional Bangladeshi food like kiltshafish and pithas. What made our conversation more engaging was discovering the similarities and differences between both cultures. For example, both of our cuisine plays great importance on rice, but the preparation still differs. We discussed on how food is central to our cuisine, having sweet being an essential part of festivals. I felt incredibly comfortable and happy while talking to Sara because she was so warm and approachable. She had a way of making the conversation flow naturally and I didn’t feel it out of the place at all. By the end of the evening, I realized how much I enjoyed learning about her perspective and sharing mine in return. Meeting Sara and having that conversation was a remarkable experience for me.
