Today I would like to share an experience from my freshman year of university that taught me valuable lessons about responsibility. I was participating in a certificate mooting competition event which includes various academic challenges, one of which was an oral session that my team had prepared for throughout the league. However due to my poor time management and unfortunately overslept and did not wake up until 1pm which was far too late to attend a critical event, this moment marks the beginning of a writable experience for me. As a result of my negligence, I missed the oral representation entirely. My teammate had to unexpectedly step in and cover my part, but she handled it reasonably well. Our team’s performance ultimately suffered due to my absence. We were aiming for a specific goal in the competition and my being late meant we failed short of that objective. This failure was disheartening not just for me but for the whole team. It was a stark reminder of how one individual action can impact others. Following the incident, I felt a profound sense of guilt and disappointment. I made multiple apologies to my teammates and our mentors, realizing that words alone would not mend the trust that I had broken. It was painful to see how my action had disappointed not only my peers but also someone who believed in me. Despite their forgiveness, I knew it would take time to rebuild what I had been lost. I felt that I had not only let other people doubt but also myself as I had set high expectations for my performance. This experience has profoundly shaped my approach to time management and commitment ever since. I have learned to prioritize my responsibilities and ensure that such a situation does not happen again. Although it was a difficult lesson to learn, I now appreciate the importance of being accountable for my actions.
