India is a vast and diverse country, brimming with festivals celebrated throughout the year. If I had to choose one, it would be Durga Puja, a festival dedicated to the Hindu goddess Durga. It typically takes place in October, sometimes spilling into November. According to Hindu mythology, Durga vanquished a powerful demon with her ten hands, and this festival commemorates her victory. The most beautiful aspect of Durga Puja is the sense of community it fosters. People come together, often visiting friends and family, and engaging in festive shopping. The festival is a vibrant spectacle, with elaborate decorations and cultural performances. While Durga Puja is celebrated across India, it holds a special significance in West Bengal, where it is considered a deeply rooted cultural tradition. The festival is a significant financial event, with many people saving up to celebrate it lavishly. However, there are some downsides. The weather during Durga Puja can be challenging, with an increase in insects that can be a nuisance and even pose health risks. This can also trigger allergies in some individuals.
