I would like to share the story of an old friend named Tanya who played a significant role in my childhood. We were classmates in primary school and enjoyed a close friendship during those formative years. I vividly remember how we would spend our recesses playing together, even collaborating our homework time to time. Our bond was rooted in shared laughter and countless cherished moments which created a strong foundation for our friendship. However, after we completed our primary school, life took us in different directions. Tanya’s family relocated to another city due to her father’s new job. Although we promised to keep in touch but the passage of time saw our connection failure, both of us became occupied which made it increasingly difficult. We were also very anxious and challenging to stay connected. During that time, the absence of mobile phone and social media added to the difficulties of maintaining contact. Several years later, I was scrolling Facebook and scrambled upon Tanya’s profile. Excited by reconnecting with her, I promptly sent her a friend request which she graciously accepted. From that moment, we began exchanging messages and rekindling our friendship, reminiscing about our youthful escapades and updating each other on the experience we had gone through since our paths diversed. Reconnecting with Tanya brought me a wave of happiness and nostalgia as it felt like rediscovering a precious part of my childhood that I had lost. I had almost forgotten. We even started making plans to meet up whenever she visits our hometown which I eagerly look forward to. The experience of free reigniting an old friend filled with warmth and shared story has been truly wonderful and I am grateful that we have found our way back to each other.
