A piece of artwork that comes directly to my mind is certainly Bruegel’s Tower of Babylon. I first saw this painting when I was in Vienna last year, participating in arbitration competition. And one of the days we had free time to go to the museum. We were really lucky to have the possibility to see Bruegel’s artwork as it was specifically demonstrated during the times that we went to Vienna. Usually I’m not a person that goes to museums too often or really understands the underlying purposes and messages of artwork. However, as soon as I saw the tower of Babylon, I was astonished. First, I want to emphasize that the colors and the structure of the painting was phenomenal. A bugle used very vivid and contrasting colors, which makes the viewer fascinated by the colors itself. Also, what is notable is the structure of the painting as well. It is a little bit tilted and makes the viewer at first confused in regards to what is the purpose of tilting the painting. However, the longer you are looking at the painting, the more you understand that it’s not tilted. It’s just a structure that makes the person believe that the painting is tilted, which is fascinating in my opinion.
