There are a lot of festivals celebrated by Nepalese people like Dashain, Tihar, and Makar Sankranti. But today I would like to talk about a major festival of Hindus and Nepalese people, which is Dashain. The celebrations occur in the month of September and October, lasting for 10 days, starting from the first day to the ninth day. The main theme is worshipping the Goddess Durga, and the last day is for the victory of the Goddess Durga. This is one of the major festivals of Hindus, and it celebrates the victory of Goddess Durga over various evils or demons like Mahishasura. The first day of Dashain is Ghatasthapana, in which a small fort is placed in a separate space filled with holy water and some seeds. Those seeds turn into jamara, which can be taken in the next 10 days and put on the foreheads of people. The festival's theme is to celebrate the victory of Goddess Durga over the demons. From the first day to the ninth day, people usually go to temples and pray for goodwill, as well as offer various kinds of support to the Gods. The last day of Dashain is for the busy Dashami, which means people receive tikka on their foreheads, especially red tikka with jamara, which was kept from the first day, along with holy water and a separate fort. The tikka is given by our ancestors and seniors, especially relatives. Afterward, we visit other relatives' homes to receive tikka on our foreheads, and then we celebrate with dancing and other festivities. Also, one of the major events of Dashain is the festival.
