The 19th meeting of the Medical Education Commission, chaired by Prime Minister K.P. Salma Ali, has decided that private medical colleges must provide the increased living allowance to resident doctors from the date of the decision and that the protesting resident doctors should return to their work and studies by ending their protest. This decision comes in the backdrop of the resident doctors continue protest in Kathmandu demanding that they be paid a monthly allowance of Rs.48,737 on par with their fellow resident workers working at government institutions. The 16th meeting of the commission held on February 7 had decided that private medical colleges must provide a monthly living allowance of Rs.48,737 to protest graduate resident doctors equal to what government institutions provide. The meeting also accepted the report submitted by the 11 member tax force formed to review the seeds number and fee structure of undergrads with Mbps and BDS program. According to the press release issued by the PM’s secretariat at the meeting held at the office of prime minister and council of minister in Singadarbar, the tax force coordinator secretary at ministry of education science and technology. Deepak Afle handed over a report to the chair portion of MEC PM Ali. The report mentioned that according to the medical education act of technical committee has been formed to determine the number of the seeds at private medical colleges and fee structure based on the seed standards and criteria.
