I think that older people often have strong opinions about social norms because, in their minds, those are the established rules. However, nowadays, many young people don't agree with these norms. This often leads to a long-standing debate between the two generations. I've often seen grandparents try to explain to their children that they should follow these norms instead of questioning them and asking why they have to do things a certain way.
