Band 5+: What kind of music do you like listening to?

Your pronunciation is quite good. Working on consistency and tackling difficult sounds may enhance clarity.

The answer addresses the topic but contains a tense inconsistency that affects the clarity of the response. By stating 'The type of music that I used to listen to is pop music,' the speaker implies they no longer listen to it, which leaves the current preference unaddressed. To improve, ensure that the tense used matches the question (e.g., using the present tense to describe current tastes). Additionally, while mentioning a specific artist is good, the response would benefit from more elaboration regarding why that music is enjoyed or what specific elements of the genre are appealing, rather than ending the thought abruptly.

The response is very brief and lacks development. While you answered the question directly, a Band 9 candidate would expand on 'why' they like pop music or mention other artists to maintain flow. There was also a noticeable hesitation/breakdown in coherence when you forgot the song title. Try to use 'filler phrases' like 'It's on the tip of my tongue' or 'I can't recall the name right now' to maintain fluency even when you forget a specific word.

The vocabulary is quite basic (e.g., 'type of music', 'really fan'). In the raw transcript, 'really fan' is an unnatural collocation; the refined version 'big fan' is better, but for a higher score, you should aim for more descriptive terms like 'catchy melodies,' 'rhythmic beats,' or 'iconic pop star.' Also, note the distinction between 'music' (the genre) and 'song' (the specific piece); you used 'music' when referring to a specific track. Boost vocabulary complexity to elevate the overall score.

There are significant grammatical errors in the raw transcript. 'The type of music that I use to listen' is incorrect; it should be 'I used to listen to' (past habit) or 'I usually listen to' (present habit). Additionally, 'My favorite music of him' is ungrammatical; the correct possessive form is 'My favorite song of his.' To improve, practice using relative clauses and correct possessive pronouns.
