Most of the time, they receive some kind of medal or a trophy, like a cup. I remember when I was around 8 or 9, I joined a model plane competition, and one of the gifts was actually a toolbox. I am not sure how a kid would utilize that, but it was the most interesting gift I have ever seen in a contest for children.
