I think it depends on people's preferences. Many people prefer to read novels because the characters are more developed in novels, since many novels have a high number of pages, which allows the writer to develop the characters well. However, in movies, there's no time to develop the characters, because the movie would be like two or three hours maximum. But I think that some people might prefer movies because they are attracted to visuals more than reading a piece of paper. For example, the movie Sherlock Holmes had many views, and the number of viewers was more than the number of novel readers.
