I think people like to explore new places to get away from their mundane lives and step out of their comfort zones. Tourism can be a huge industry for many economies, and even today we can see that a lot of countries highly depend on tourism for generating revenue. People are aware of this and make many efforts to develop tourism in their own nations by being very hospitable to foreign travelers. New places can open up many new perspectives for people, give them time to relax, and even improve their overall personality by meeting new people, understanding their experiences, and learning from them. So yes, people are aware of the benefits of traveling, and they enjoy doing it now.
