The charts introduce the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019. The data in the second line graph is measured in the number of hours per week spent on doing chores, while the data In the first chart is measured by the number of electrical appliances used in households.
Overall, the total number of households with electrical appliances has been increasing rapidly, particularly in the first half, however, the percentage of chores done with machines hardly changed in the past few years. The amount of hours spent on households has vigorously decreased in the first half and has been at it’s lowest point for decades, thanks to modern inventions.
In details, percentage of households with electrical appliances has gradually climbed since 1920. According to the chart, the amount of refrigerators used at resident’s houses had sharply increased from 1920, from 0 percent of refrigerators’ usage to 90 in just 40 years. Although, in percentage terms, management of washing machines had increased by 20 percents in 20 years, from 1920 to 1940, attaining 60 percents, but has remained steady, reaching slightly above 70 percents in 2019. Meanwhile, the percentage of households with vacuum cleaners had been moderately increasing for an entire period of time, from 30 to 100 percents in 80 years and has remained it’s steadiness for 9 years, from 2000 to 2019.
Besides that, according to the second chart, number of housework per week had been gradually decreasing in the past 99 years, from 50 hours per week to just 10 in 2019. However, the amount of hours spent on chores has been stable since 1980, being around 10-15.
