The chart and table compared the supply of the designation of men and women for the household activities except the paid work in 2008 in the United Kingdom.
Overall, women devoted significantly more time than men to most household tasks, particularly cooking and washing, while men gradually spent longer time in leisure activities, especially on watching TV. Repair is the only household activity where men outspent women.
Firstly, in terms of household activity, women spent by far the most time on cooking and washing, which is approximately 75 minutes per day, compared with around 30 minutes for men. A similar trend can be seen in clothes washing and ironing, where men spent only 10 minutes, whereas women allocated 30 minutes. Moreover, women took slightly more time than men in terms of shopping. By contrast, men spent considerably more time in repair compared to women.
Back to leisure activities, men consistently spent more time than women in watching TV videos and listening to radio, which is 137 minutes per day, while the women spent 118 minutes. In terms of sport, women spent less time rather than men, with 15 minutes per day compared to 11 minutes. But in terms of reading, men and women both spent almost the same time with the gap of 1 minute, where men spent 18 minutes and women spent 19 minutes per day.
