The diagram illustrates the car expenditure in China, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia from 1995 to 2005
Overall, Indonesia showed the most significant increase in expenditure from 1995 to 2005 while Thailand showed the least. Despite this, China remained the top spender throughout the years, while Indonesia initially spent the lowest amount, eventually surpassed Thailand in 2003.
In 1995, Indonesia’s car expenditure was seen as 30 million dollars followed by a minor rise to 40 million in 1999 which plateaued till 2001. Subsequently, a sharp surge, close to 66 million dollars, was reported in 2005 and was shown to be the most notable change. On the other hand, Thailand had a comparatively minor change from 50 million to just over 60 million dollars over the 10-year span.
China and Vietnam also presented changes with the former increasing from 80 to about 90 million dollars in first 4 years then rising close to 98 million dollars following some fluctuations, while the latter showing a steady increase from about 56 million to close to 66 million dollars. In certain points in time, the money spent was almost identical across countries, namely in 1997 (Thailand and Vietnam, just under 60 million) and 2003 (Thailand and Indonesia, 60 million).
