Overall, reversible turbines and generators are the main equipment for electricity production. However, all steps are necessary, and the omission of any step can halt the whole process.
After analyzing the diagram, firstly, a dam is constructed to store the river water. A high-level reservoir is built on the higher side. A small opening is left on the lower side of the dam for intake purposes. Intake of water is only opened during the day and closed at night. Afterward, the flow of water to produce electricity is downward during the day. Then, reversible turbines are used to operate the generator by the speed of the flow of water. In this way, the generator generates the electricity and circulates it through power lines to the National grid. The water utilized to rotate the turbines is stored in a low-level reservoir.
Conversely, at night, the reverse process takes place. In other words, the water flows from a low-level to a high-level reservoir, with the help of a pumping system.
