The number of people living in Ireland started at over half of 70000 in 1988, after which it sharply decreased to over 50000 people in 1990, before plunging 20000 people in 2000. On the other hand, over half of the 16 percent unemployment rate was recorded in 1988, with a subsequent decrease to nearly 13 percent in 1990, and a final fall of just over 5 percent by 2002.
