The diagram demonstrates the processes of how a long-term memory is formed inside the brain.
Overall, there are four main steps in oder to build a long lasting memory. Interestingly, the short-term memory plays a crucial role as the way to maintain information.
The first step requires an input of information through the sensory system such as vision, touch, hearing and smelling. However, such input possesses the possibility of disappearing if there is no close attention to it. For example, during a class, if a student is distracted at a certain point and unable to focus closely, the information that is needed to obtain will not be stored by the brain, which mean a short-term memory cannot be form. The temporary memory is essential for the next step.
