In General, the recycling rate of glass and paper fluctuated over 28 years, while the recycling rate of aluminum cans and plastics increased over the same period.
As has been noted, from 1982 to 1994, the recycling percentage of paper and cardboard fluctuated between 65% and 80%. Then the rate reduced from 80% (which was the peak) to 70% in 2010. Moreover, the proportion of glass containers that were recycled decreased from 50% in 1982 to 40% in 1990, but then it increased to 60% in 2010.
However, the recycling rate of aluminum cans expanded from 0% in 1982 to 45% in 2010, increasing by approximately 5% every five years. In addition, the recycling rate of plastics increased by 10% over 28 years, starting at 0% in 1982 and reaching 10% in 2010.
