The diagrams show where people born in and outside of Australia lived in 1995 and 2010. The location is divided into three categories, they are urban, suburban, and countryside areas.

Overall, the majority of people always lived in cities, while the rural population was decreasing over the given period of time.

As for native Australians, the urban population has increased from 50% to about 65% in 15 years, whereas the percentage of people who lived in other locations decreased around twice during the same time. By 2010, 15% of the people lived in towns and the same number in villages, compared to 20% and 30% fifteen years earlier.

People who were born outside of Australia preferred settling down in cities and their percentage rose from 60% to 80%. The population of towns did not experience a big change as it was represented by around 10% in both years. However, the number of rural dwellers plummeted drastically from 40% to around 5% from 1995 to 2010.
