The bar chart delineates the illiteracy rates compared by different areas and genders worldwide in the last year.
As can be seen, it is conspicuous that throughout six places, there were more illiterate men compared to that of women. Another noteworthy observation is that the figure for illiteracy rates in South Asia in terms of both genders reached the highest point when developed countries had the lowest percentage of illiterate people.
Regarding the three areas witnessing the highest figure in both genders, South Asia peaked up with around 34% and nearly 56% male and female having illiteracy respectively; while the other two regions which are Arab States and Sub-Saharan had quite approximate numbers with the middle number of both aforementioned regions were roughly 50%.
Developed countries recorded the lowest percentage of both genders throughout the world, which was just under 5% for both males and females. Latin America and East Asia had slightly lower percentages, which all were below 20%.
