As we can see, the graph is only showing one year of estimated world illiteracy rates. The developed countries have the lowest rates while south Asia has the highest rates over 50%. Notice how the women are more illiterate than men in all the regions except for the developed countries where they exhibit equal literacy rates. It’s also notables that, Arab states and sub-Saharan Africa regions depict high literacy rates for men at 29% to almost 35% compared to women’s rates at 52% and 56%.
Furthermore, when examining the data it reveals that the males have lower rates of illiteracy than females. This is especially more prominent in south Asia, Arab states and sub-Saharan Africa.
