Overall, all five cities show a general upward trend in rainfall from March to June, followed by a decline towards September. Among them, Guangzhou records by far the highest levels of precipitation during most of the period, while Urumqi remains consistently the driest city.
In Beijing, rainfall rises sharply from around 10 mm in March to nearly 80 mm in June, before falling back to about 50 mm in September. A steeper increase is observed in Chengdu, where precipitation surges from roughly 25 mm to 150 mm over the same period, then decreases slightly to around 120 mm in September. By contrast, Urumqi experiences much lower levels of rainfall, climbing modestly from just above 10 mm in March to around 25 mm in June, and then declining to about 15 mm by September.
Rainfall is considerably heavier in Shanghai and Guangzhou. Shanghai receives just over 100 mm in March, the highest among the five cities at that time, and this figure rises to approximately 170 mm in June before dropping back to 100 mm in September. Guangzhou, however, surpasses all the other cities in both June and September, with rainfall peaking at about 270 mm in June and still remaining high at 170 mm in September.
