The bar chart illustrates the number of people working five different sectors – sales, accounting, computing, nursing, and farming – in one area of Australia in 2001 and 2008.
Overall, it is evident from the chart that sales accounted for the highest number of employees in both years, whereas farming had the lowest number.
Looking first at sales, accounting and computing, sales had by far the highest number of workers in both years, rising from about 155.000 in 2001 to 165.000 in 2008. By comparison, the figure for accounting remained almost unchanged, standing at around 68.000 in 2001 before declining slightly to 59.000 in 2008. At the same time, computing experienced a considerable increase, from approximately 59.000 to 80.000, in other words the number of employees in this sector grew more noticeable than in sales.
Turning to nursing and farming, nursing showed an increase the number of workers, growing from about 59.000 in 2001 to 61.000 in 2008. On the other hand, farming was the only sector to witness a decline during the period. This figure fell slightly from approximately 30.000 to 19.000. in spite of this decrease, farming continued to have the lowest number of employees in both years.
