The bar chart illustrates the proportions of different sectors in India’s GDP between 1960 and 2000.
Overall, there was an increase in the percentage of services contributing to India’s GDP, while a constant decline was seen in the figure for Agriculture. It is also clear that the industry sector consistently had the lowest figures during the period, even though a slight increase from 1980 onwards.
The contributions that Agriculture made to India’s GDP started at 63%, after which it experienced a considerable decrease to 45% in 1980. Opposite changes can be seen in the figures for Industry and Services, which rose from 16% and 17% to 20% and 23% in the first 20 years.
From 1980 to 2000, the proportion of Agriculture contributing dropped significantly, reaching 13%. Meanwhile, the figure for Services increased sharply to 63% in 2000 and took the leading position in three sectors. The Industry sector remained a steady contributor to India’s GDP throughout the period.
