Overall,while the contribution of agricultural decreased dramatically, service sector saw an upward trend in its contribution. Additionally, the contribution of industry sector experienced a slight increase and was lowest among the three sectors.
In the initial years (1960-1970), the agricultural sector held the largest share, contributing around approximately 53-63% to India’s GDP. Over the following two decades, the figure for agriculture witnessed a steady decline, dropping to roughly 45% by 1980.In contrast,the service sector saw a increase dramatically in its contribution, rising from 16% in 1960 to 64% in 2000.
As for the industrial sector, over the three years(1960-1980), there was a slight growth in the figure,climbing from about 15% to 25%. At the end two years, the percentage contribution of industrial sector remained constant and still stood at 25%.
