The bar chart illustrates the top ten countries’ electricity generation and consumption in 2014. Overall, China and the United States both led in electricity output and usage. Generation exceeded consumption in all countries except Germany.
China produced and consumed 5,398 billion KWH and 5,322 billion KWH, respectively. The United States followed as the second largest country, with 4,099 billion KWH generated and 3,866 billion KWH used. Among other countries, only Russia produced and used more than 1000 billion KWH, at 1,057 billion KWH and 1,038 billion KWH, respectively. However, the Republic of Korea had the lowest numbers in both generation and consumption among the listed countries, at 485.1 billion KWH and 449.5 billion KWH.
Japan, India, Canada, France, Brazil, and Germany had electricity outputs and usage ranging from 936.2 billion KWH to 526.6 billion KWH. Only Germany had a higher consumption than production, with 582.5 billion KWH used and 526.6 billion KWH generated.
