Overall, males always had the highest participants in comparison to females, while the number of females increased slightly in the Olympics from 1924. Moreover, the quantity of participant increased steadily.
First, the highest number of participants belonged to male with 600 men participate in the 2012 Olympic. Moreover, the number of participants reached its peak in the same year. However the quantity of females had a significant jump from around 1500 women in 1984 to almost 5000 women in the year 2012.
Second, females had the lowest participants of all time with around 100 women in the year 1924. In addition, the Olympics had the lowest number of participants at the beginning, in 1924.
