The line chart illustrates the percentages of people in the US who owned different numbers of computers from 1997 to 2012.

Overall, huge proportion of people in the US didn’t own a computer in 1997 but this figure followed by a steep downward trajectory over time. Meanwhile, the figures for only 1 computer ownership is significantly higher than the number of people who own 2, 3 or more computers throughout the period.

If we look at the trends over time, the number of people who had no computer started with nearly 70% and dramatically fell to reach around 20% in 2012. In contrast with the downward trend of the no computer ownership, the trend of the people with 1 computer ownership surged sharply from quarter of the proportion of US in 1997 to half proportion in 2003, then rose modestly until 2012.

The figures for the ownership of both of 2 computers and 3 or more computers gradually increased with starting from approximately under 10% in 1997 and experienced a modest growth to nearly 10% and 20% respectively in 2012.
