The following chart illustrates the percentage of average weekly spending by families between 1968 and 2018.
Overall ,in the modern world people spend more money on leisure. As in 1968, the most needed feature was food.
To begin with, the percentage that was spent on food in 1968 was 35% , in comparison with weekly spending in 2018 it was 17%. Also, in 2018 the percent spent on housing was almost 20% and in 1968 it was only 10% per week. In 2018 the spending for transport is 13% and in 1968 it was only 7%. For household goods, the amount of spent money is still the same for 1968 and 2018, around 8% per week.
In 2018 the percent of weekly spent on leisure was 22%, whereas in 1968 it was in half less compared to 2018, only 10%. For other options such as fuel and power , clothing and footwear and personal goods the percentage spender in 2018 was around 5%-10% weekly. However, the spending for personal goods in 1968 was 8%, for clothing-10%, and for fuel and power was 6%.
To sum up, the spending on personal , household goods ,for clothing and footwear ,for fuel and power and for food was bigger in the past , and nowadays people spent more money for housing , leisure and transport.
