Overall, the amount of time children spend exclusively with their father is significantly less than that with their mother regardless of whether it is weekdays or weekends. Additionally, their amount of time they spend with both parents increases considerably on weekends.
With regards of weekdays, children in all age groups spend around 9 hours with their parents in general. As for maternal care, children in every age band spend approximately 6 hours with only their mothers. By contrast, they spend from 1 to 2 hours in the exclusive presence of their dad, except for the 4-5-years-old, whose figure is about 2.5 hours. Finally, those aged 8-9 spend the longest hours in the presence of both parents, with a figure of 2.5 hours.
Moving to weekends, children from 2 to 7 years old spend around 10 hours with their parents. Noticeably, spending around 5.5 hours with them, both parents are more involved in rearing their children on weekends. Meanwhile, children in all age brackets spend even less time with their father, with the highest amount of time being seen in those aged 4-5 ( 1.5 hours). Lastly, children also spend less time with their mother, with an average of 4 hours instead of 6 hours as seen on weekdays.
