Overall, students in the UK chose to go on foot and ride a bike to go to school when the distance was under 2 miles. In addition, students who lived away from school over 5 miles, chose to go to school by bus.
The journey under 1 mile in walking was the highest, at about 90%, and the figures for bicycle, car and bus were lower, at about 50%, 8% and under 5%, respectively. At the same time, the distance from 1 to 2 miles in bicycle far exceeded that of walking, car and bus, with respective figures being 77%, 60%, 20% and 10%.
About 50% of the students who chose bus, had a distance between 2 and 5 miles, compared to about 48% in bicycle, 32% in car and 25% in walking. The journey over 5 miles only showed in bus and car, which was 67% and 22%.
