The provided pie chart visualises the proportions of social media users in percentages by age groups. The information was taken from residents of Jamestown in 2018
Overall, the pie chart gives an idea of the relationship between the user’s age and social media usage. According to the given data, social media is mostly used by the youth.
In 2008, 40% of the social media users in Jamestown were between 13 – 15 years-old, while 35% of users were between 26 – 35 years-old. Accordingly, this suggest that, three quarters of social media users were under 35-years-old. Therefore, this trend shows that, more teenagers and youth were attracted to social media.
On the other hand, 15% of the social media users were between 36 – 45 years-old, and, 8% of users were middle aged, whom belonged to the category of 46 – 55 years-old. The least percentage of users were from the category of over 55 years-old. Therefore, the proportion of older users was limited to a quarter of the overall number of users. According to that value, we can assume that, social media was not preferred by the elderly.
